The word is out! The much anticipated book, WordPress For Dummies, will be orderable on Oct. 29th. Amazon expects to ship on or around Nov. 2nd. Simultaneous with Amazon’s release, the book with will available at Barnes and Nobel, Books-A-Million and, of course, Dummies.com and Wiley.com (publisher). According to the author Lisa Sabin-Wilson1, “this all-new Dummies guide delivers just what would-be bloggers need to get up and running with WordPress and start communicating with the world. WordPress For Dummies covers blogging basics, choosing a hosting solution or setting up a host, developing blog content, syndicating blog posts with RSS, launching a specialized blog (including podcasting, photoblogging, mobile blogging, and videoblogging), and even earning revenue. It includes help on every aspect of installing and using WordPress, illustrations from real-world WordPress blogs, step-by-step tutorials on key topics, and insights from bloggers who use WordPress”.
The name a bit corny? The ads a bit flashy? Don’t let that put you off. WidgetBucks has taken the world of affiliate marketing by storm. Launched on October 2, 2007 by Seattle-based Mpire, WidgetBucks promises to help publishers, affiliates and bloggers earn three to four times more money compared to traditional ad networks. Publishers can choose between a patent-pending technology called MerchSense to display contextual shopping widgets or select among a 100 different categories from electronics to political books. Widgets are available in a conventional ad sizes (160×600, 120×600, etc) plus a new 160×300 sidebar size.
MediaWhiz has launched a new ad network called ShoppingAds. It is meant to be a replacement for AuctionAds. AuctionsAds offered CPA ads only while ShoppingAds will offer a combination of CPA and CPC ads. AuctionsAds was linked through to eBay while ShoppingAds can link to any number of advertisers. ShoppingAds will display CPC ads to site visitors from the USA while international visitors will see geo-targeted CPA ads from eBay. Some users of AuctionAds have complained of high numbers of clicks with very a poor conversion rates. AuctionAds works best on product-related sites in specific niches (ex. baseball cards). For example, some AuctionAds users are seeing RPC as low as $0.01 to $0.02. It’s too soon to say what the overall RPC will be for ShoppingAds.
