After the better part of a year in beta, Clickriver is open for business. Clickriver was developed by Amazon’s subsidiary A9.com to allow advertisers to display text ads alongside Amazon’s products and search results. Clickriver combines keyword and category targeting to outperform leading search engines in conversions to orders. Here’s what the ads look like (albeit a bit shrunk to fit here): Evidently, Amazon is certain that the ads won’t cannibalize their own sales. Advertised products must be complementary, sold off-site and not in competition with what Amazon is selling on the page. That’s what Amazon said anyway. A look at their site shows that the ads are often for similar and sometimes identical products. The ads appear to be geo-targeted as well as keyword/category targeted.
News just broke that MediaWhiz has purchased Jeremy Schoemaker’s majority ownership of AuctionAds to fully acquire the company. AuctionAds was launched earlier this year as a partnership between Shoemoney Media and MediaWhiz. This is good news for AuctionAds publishers who have suffered through outages and targeting/reporting problems especially over the last few weeks. AuctionAds was a victim of it’s own success. Rapid growthSince launch, [tag]AuctionAds[/tag] has registered over 25,000 publishers displaying 300+ million AuctionAds ads per day on their network. required scaling of servers beyond what a two-man team could provide.

I must admit. This a great marketing ploy by Utah-based Blendtec. Putting an iPhone in an Total Tabletop Blender. They have set-up and a separate website called WillitBlend and even an eBay auction to sell the ground-up iPhone. The video made it on the front page of Digg within 30 minutes after it was posted. Previously, Blendtec has destroyed Transformers toys and a can of Easy Cheese. The company said they received special requests to blend an iPhone. Watch Tom Dickson’s now famous video.
Swivel is a great source for interesting data. If you haven’t browsed the site, it’s definitely worth a look. This interesting chart caught my eye. With MySpace constantly in the news, it’s worth looking at the demographics.
